<p> On the contrary, having great abs doesn&#8217;t only require body building activities. To have a six pack abs you also need to have a sound diet and a lot of patience. Over the years, gym instructors and body building enthusiasts have developed a number of abs workout routines that can be performed even at home. That is right. Now, there are great routines that target the abs which can be done at home. It has teh same results as if you have done the exercise with a personal trainer in the gym.</p>
<p> A very good abdominal workout involves the upper and lower abdomen as well as what we call as love handles. The abdomen is a very important group of muscles because it is where most of our vital organs such as the liver, kidney and stomach are sited. This area is also the fastest and easiest way for fats to be stored.</p>
<p> Following are example of exercises and routines that target the abdominal areas.</p>
<p> Long Arm Weighted Crunch<br /> This ab workout is done by first, lie down on your back. Then place both feet towards your buttocks. With dumbbells in each hand, extend your arms above your head. As you crunch and lift your shoulders and head off the floorboards remember to exhale. Next, extend your hands in front of your knees and hold the position for a few seconds. Go back to your starting position and repeat the exercise as many times as required.</p>
<p> The Russian Twist<br /> Prepare your medicine ball, dumbbell and weight plate. Either of the three will do. Sit on the floor with your hips and knees bent 90 degrees. Hold your medicine ball or weight plate in front of you at arm&#8217;s length. Keep in mind to always keep your back straight. Twist your upper body (with force) to the left, extending as far as you can reach. Go back to zero position and then do the same thing to your right. Do some repetitions as required.</p>
<p> Plank<br /> The plank is always necessary for a great ab exercises. This exercise can be done both at home and gyms. To do this exercise, stoop on your hands and knees. Place your elbows on the ground and slightly curl your toes. Contract your abdominal muscles and then slowly lift yourself off the floor. Make sure your lower back remains elevated. Do not let you lower back dip otherwise the exercise will not work. Hold the position as long as you can and then rest. Repeat as necessary.</p>
<p> Thai Crunch<br /> As if you are going to do a normal crunch, lie on your back with your knees up and your hands placed behind your head. Draw your belly button in and try to crunch off the floor to your right. Touch your right elbow with the right thigh. Hold this position for three to five seconds depending on how long you can hold the position. Go back to zero position and then repeat the exercise to your left.</p>
<p> Gorilla Swing 1<br /> You&#8217;ll be needing dumbbells for this exercise. On each hand hold your dumbbells. Stand straight in an athletic standing position. With arms straight, swing it at shoulder level and then swing it back down. As you swing your right arm down, swing your left up to shoulder level. While doing the arm swinging motion, always keep your abdominal muscles braced.</p>
<p> These are some of the most effective abs calisthenics that you can perform even indoors. Make sure that once you start working out, continue and be patient with the results. Great abs cannot be achieved overnight. It requires a lot of work, commitment, patience, good diet and determination.</p>
